Hoverboards Are Unsafe According to the US Government

The crackdown on hoverboards for being unsafe has officially begun in the United States. A U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission letter labeled these toys as “unsafe” and they say hoverboards pose “an unreasonable risk of fire to consumers.”

Consumers who have purchased a hoverboard should demand a refund, says the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The batteries tend to burst into flames, and reports about injuries related to this particular malfunction have been rolling in since December 2015. There have been 52 reported hoverboard fires and $2 million in damages according to CNet.

The CPSC doesn’t think people will actually part with their precious hoverboards, but it’s good to be aware of the dangers.
